GAINESVILLE, FL · INDEPENDENT MOLD INFORMATION & SERVICE CONNECTIONS
About Gainesville Mold Rescue — Straight Answers on Mold in North Central Florida
Gainesville Mold Rescue is a Gainesville, FL based mold information and service-connection site. We help homeowners and property managers across North Central Florida figure out what they are actually looking at — a musty smell, a water stain, visible growth in a bathroom or attic — and connect them with the right next step, whether that is a quick explanation, a local provider, or a few things to check before spending any money.
We built this site because too many people searching for mold help in Gainesville run into vague pricing, upsell-heavy inspections, and advice that is more sales pitch than substance. Our approach is simpler: explain the problem honestly, in plain language, and point you toward a written scope and a verifiable license before anyone starts work in your home.

Our Story
Why We Built A Straight-Answers Mold Site For Gainesville
Gainesville sits in a part of Florida where humidity, heavy summer rain, and older housing stock make mold a near-constant background concern rather than a once-in-a-while emergency. Search “mold removal Gainesville” and you will find a mix of generalist handymen, out-of-state franchise call centers, and a handful of legitimate local providers — with very little to help a homeowner tell them apart.
The Problem We Saw
Homeowners were getting quoted wildly different prices for the same visible problem, often after a “free inspection” that conveniently found far more work than the homeowner expected. Few sites explained the actual Florida licensing rules well enough for someone to check who they were hiring, or why a company that inspects your home for mold generally should not also be the one selling you the remediation.
The Result We Built
A Gainesville-focused resource that explains mold in plain language, lays out what Florida actually requires of mold assessors and remediators, and helps connect homeowners with providers — without pretending to be a licensed remediation company ourselves. We would rather tell you how to verify a license than ask you to take our word for it.
What We Do
Mold Services Covered On This Site
Every page on this site covers one specific mold-related problem, written to explain what it actually involves before you call anyone — what we cover:
Water Damage Restoration
What to do in the first 24-48 hours after a leak or flood, before mold has a chance to establish.
Attic Mold Removal
Why attic mold shows up in Florida homes (usually ventilation or roof moisture) and what removal actually involves.
Crawl Space Mold Removal
Pier-and-post and crawl space foundations trap humidity differently than slab homes — here is why that matters.
Black Mold Removal
What “black mold” (Stachybotrys) actually is, and why the color alone does not tell you how serious it is.
Emergency Mold Removal
When mold is tied to active water damage and genuinely cannot wait for a scheduled appointment.
Mold Encapsulation
When sealing treated material makes sense — and when it is used to avoid proper removal instead.
Mold in Air Ducts & HVAC
How HVAC systems spread mold spores through a home, and what inspection of ductwork involves.
Commercial Mold Remediation
What changes for property managers and business owners versus a single-family home.
Dry Ice Blasting
A non-chemical mechanical removal method, and when it is actually the right tool for the job.
Trauma & Crime Scene Cleanup
A related but distinct biohazard cleanup service, for situations that also involve contamination.
Mold Prevention Tips
Practical, Florida-specific steps to keep humidity and moisture from turning into a mold problem.
Where We Serve
Gainesville & North Central Florida Service Area
We serve Gainesville, FL and nearby communities. Each nearby community has its own mix of housing age, flooding pattern, and humidity exposure — which is part of why a generic national pest-and-mold franchise script does not always fit what is actually happening at a specific address.

High Springs, FL
Smaller, older housing stock with a mix of well water and septic systems that can factor into moisture issues.
Alachua, FL
Growing residential area north of Gainesville, with a mix of newer construction and older farmhouses.

How Mold Licensing Actually Works In Florida
Florida is one of the few states that specifically licenses mold-related work, through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) under Florida Statutes, Chapter 468, Part XVI. If you take one thing from this page, make it this: understanding these rules is the single best protection you have before hiring anyone.
Two Separate Licenses — On Purpose
Florida does not issue one general “mold license.” It issues two distinct ones, and that separation is intentional:
Mold Assessor (MRSA): Licensed to inspect a property, take samples, interpret lab results, and write a documented scope of the mold problem — including a post-remediation clearance inspection confirming the work actually worked. Under Florida law, a mold assessment specifically applies to suspected contamination greater than 10 square feet.
Mold Remediator (MRSR): Licensed to perform the physical work — containment, removal, cleaning, and treatment of mold-contaminated material — based on the scope the assessor wrote.
Why The Same Company Assessing And Remediating Your Home Is A Red Flag
The reason Florida separates these two licenses is straightforward: an assessor who also sells remediation has a financial incentive to find more problems than actually exist. A remediator who also “clears” their own finished work is grading their own homework. Florida’s licensing structure exists to keep those two roles independent of each other on the same job — which is also why we recommend treating any company that offers to both inspect and fix the same mold problem with some skepticism, and asking directly how they handle that separation.
What Florida Does Not License
Not every mold-related visit requires a state license. General mold inspection — a visual look with no sampling, or any job under the 10-square-foot threshold — generally falls outside DBPR’s licensing requirement. That is exactly why “mold inspection” is such a common, loosely-used term online, and why it is worth asking specifically whether someone holds an active Mold Assessor or Mold Remediator license versus performing a general visual walkthrough.
How To Verify Anyone’s License — Including Ours
Before you authorize any assessment or remediation work in Gainesville, look up the company and the individual technician directly through Florida’s official license database. It takes under a minute and shows license status, type, and any disciplinary history.
Where Gainesville Mold Rescue Fits In
Gainesville Mold Rescue is an independent information and service-connection site for Gainesville and North Central Florida — we are not ourselves a licensed mold assessment or remediation company, and we do not perform mold assessment or remediation work directly. When we connect you with a service provider, verifying that provider’s Florida DBPR license is a step we encourage every time, not a formality.
Why Gainesville Is Different
Why Mold Is A Year-Round Issue Here, Not A Storm-Season One
The Climate
Gainesville sits in a humid subtropical climate zone. Unlike drier parts of the country where mold is mostly a leak-driven event, Florida’s baseline humidity keeps indoor moisture elevated for much of the year — which means an HVAC system that is slightly undersized, a bathroom fan that does not vent outside, or a slow roof leak can quietly sustain mold growth for months before anyone notices.
Hurricane Season & Flooding
Gainesville’s flooding and stormwater risk is documented directly in the City of Gainesville’s own Climate Resiliency Plan. Water intrusion from a named storm does not need to cause visible damage to start a mold problem — by the time it is visible, the underlying moisture issue has usually been active for a while.
Older Housing Stock & Foundation Types
Gainesville and the surrounding towns have a real mix of slab, crawl space, and pier-and-post foundations, often on homes several decades old. Each foundation type traps and releases moisture differently, which is part of why a mold remediation approach that works on a newer slab home in Jacksonville does not automatically translate to a 1960s crawl space home in Micanopy.
How It Works
Our 4-Step Approach, In Brief
We walk through this in more detail on our Our Process page, but the short version: Look at the visible problem and its moisture history, contain the area before any removal starts, remove and treat the affected material while addressing the moisture source, then verify the area is actually clean and dry before calling it finished.
